BJP’s mass contact programme launched
ITANAGAR, May 09: Minister of State for Home Affairs Kiren Rijiju today launched the party’s “Maha Sampark Abhiyaan” (mass contact programme) at Namsai in presence of party leaders and workers.
The main objective of the programme is to meet the new members, who joined the party through online registration, to collect their complete data, including social and economic status or condition for further necessary action, said Rijiju. He also apprised the gathering about the party’s '''No politics while working for the nation” ideology on the occasion and elaborated on the central government's policy of giving 100 percent works to the local contractors only and encourage small contractors by giving 10 percent advance.
The union minister was accompanied by Leader of Opposition Tamiyo Taga, former MP Tapir Gao, legislators Laisam Simai, Tesam Pongte, BJP state president Tai Tagak, Vice President Nani Lajie and Secretary Vijay Sonam.

Biometric system in schools
ITANAGAR, May 9: In an effort to streamline the education system in the state, biometric system is being introduced in all the schools of the state to check absenteeism of teachers. The department also expedited the promotion of more than dozen number of headmasters and vice principals which was left pending for some time and have been posted to schools in remote areas which were running without regular staff.
The department also informed that, making the dream come true for many students of the state who look forward to studying in Sainik schools, a Sainik school is being set up at Niglok.

DAPORIJO, May 9: A day long training on Electoral Roll Purification and Authentication Programme (NERPAP) for EROs/AEROs was held at Daporijo today.
Highlighting the various aspects of NERPAP, state level master trainer, Ravi Jha explained in brief about various processes of feeding and seeding Aadhaar number with EPIC database. He urged the officers to work hard to achieve error free electoral roll. The training was supplemented by Liken Koyu, AERO, through power point presentation.

KHONSA, May 9: The newly constructed Rangsowm Chum at Soha village under the aegis of Rangfra Faith Promotion Society was inaugurated by Denhang Bosai, Secretary, Society for Promotion of Nocte Indigenous Culture amidst a mammoth gathering today.
Addressing the function, Bosai said, “The tribals of Arunachal Pradesh are already rich spiritually and need no interference from outsiders. If the outsiders are so considerate and concerned for the tribals, let them help us by providing education, healthcare facilities and all round development”. He said that as the major religions in the world were at loggerheads over petty differences, the simple tribal beliefs did not provide any scope to fight among themselves. Anshu returns back to a thunderous welcome
NEW DELHI, May 9: Ace mountaineer and pride of India Anshu Jamsenpa, who survived avalanches triggered by the devastating earthquake during her Everest expedition last month, returned home to a hero’s welcome at Delhi International Airport by Arunachal Resident Commissioner V Abhraham, DRC KN Damo, protocol officials, friends and well wishers.
During the official reception organized at the VIP lounge, the Resident Commissioner lauded her courage and bravery and termed her safe return fighting against all odds as nothing less than a miracle.
“Anshu is pride of India”, he said.
He also appreciated her grit, courage and the hard work rendered in clearing debris and helping the injured fellow mountaineers. The DRC had earlier climbed Mt. Gorichen with Anshu.
Speaking to the media, Anshu narrated about her ‘Everest Again’ expedition which was flagged off by Minister of State for Home Affairs Kiren Rijiju at Itanagar on April on 7 and by Ranjit Rae, the Ambassador of India in Kathmandu during her final leg on April 14. The tragic avalanche that killed 18 mountaineers and injured hundred others at the EBC was nothing compared to what was devastated in Kathmandu and elsewhere in Nepal, this I came to know only later on, stated Anshu.
Emergency teams using helicopters evacuated the most seriously injured from the base camp, while scores trapped higher up the Everest were also rescued, she said.
She went on to say, “On April 30, Tulsi Gautam, Director General of Nepal Tourism advised me and other climbers not to abandon the expedition saying that repairing works were underway and Everest expedition would be allowed to continue. However, Ang Dorjee Sherpa, Chairman of Sagarmata Pollution Control Board (SPCC) announced the closure of the treacherous Khumbu route for the season on the advice of icefall doctors”.
Following the SPCC’s decision, the Everest expedition that was hampered by deadly avalanche last year, has now been closed for the second consecutive year. With the shutting down of Everest for the season, Anshu and all other mountaineers, who needed no chopper rescue started their return journey with whatever was left of the expedition.
Anshu was the only mountaineer, who had been granted dual permit by Nepal Government to enable her double ascend attempt to create a world record for India.

Nodal department questions DA over delaying of allotment process

ITANAGR, May 9: Following the suspension of construction work of the Innovation Hub and Digital Space Exposition Theatre (Planetarium) at IG Park near Science Center by the district administration, the nodal department (Science and Technology) today questioned the district administration for alleged delaying of allotment process even though formally approved by the Chief Minister Nabam Tuki on 23th August 2014.
In a press statement Director Science and Technology T Ronya said, “When the competent authority (Chief Minister) has approved it, why the district administration is slowing down the allotment process”. The director added that it is the duty of district administration to expedite the process when the file has got approval from the competent authority.
He further clarified that Department of Science and Technology is nowhere involved in the construction part, rather it is being executed by the PWD. The district administration had put the construction on hold claiming that construction is unauthorized without obtaining permission from the district administration.
The Rs 2 crore project is being funded under the Ministry of Culture Government of India.

A trip to Asia’s cleanest village

MAWLYNNONG, MEGHALAYA, May 9: Mawlynnong, in East Khasi Hills district of the Meghalaya is a tiny village with 95 households.
The speciality of this village is that it is spotlessly clean, thus fetching the
title of Asia’s cleanest village, long before the clean India campaign took shape.
In 2003, India Discovery Magazine bestowed the title to the tiny village and has
catapulted the village in the tourism map of India. Between Sept-
The village is so clean that it makes tourists a bit self conscious if their shoes are dirty. There are bamboo waste disposal baskets everywhere and in front of every house. And it is a common sight to see villagers sweeping their compound. The villagers take it upon themselves to keep not only their surrounding clean but the entire village as well. It is not unusual for people of all age group to sweep the tiny concrete road that connects the village.
They take their responsibility seriously.
Mawlynnong proudly refers itself as ‘God’s own garden’ and it indeed is with lush greenery all around, with abundance of flowering orchids dangling in almost all the houses.
Open defecation is thing of past as every house has a toilet. The villagers say that open defecation was stopped almost a decade ago under the Nirmal Bharat Abhiyan.
A villager tells me that even before the village was dubbed the cleanest village, people have kept the village spotless. Now, it’s a community responsibility.
Though the villagers rely heavily on tourism, agriculture is the mainstay. The main occupation of the villagers is agriculture with betel nut being the chief earner along with horticulture produces.
There are three schools as well as a functional Anganwadi centre. Not surprisingly, it is a 100 percent literate village. Tourism has also brought in roads, drains, better education and management, says a villager.
Spot on about village management. There is a parking lot and it is likely that someone will come to guide you to the designated area politely if you make the mistake of parking haphazardly. Every vehicle has to pay fifty rupees to the Dorbar Shnong, a local governance body for the maintenance of the village.
Around three kilometres from the clean village is Riwai, yet another village blessed abundantly by nature. This village is a tough competitor to Mawlynnong. Here plastic is not encouraged and natural wastes are used as manure.
Ten minutes walk from the village, one land up at the very tardy living roots bridge, unique to Meghalaya and mastered by the Khasis who intertwine the roots of tree across rivulets and streams.
The pleasure of sitting on the bridges looking at the serene rivulet below is a very therapeutic experience. However, the tranquillity was soon broken by excitable tourists trying to outdo each other in reaching the bridge to take pictures. A bit unnerved by the noise, I hurried out of the place for the Sky walk. For 20 rupees, one can see the plains of Bangladesh! The all bamboo and natural rope sky walk is more than 80 feet and can accommodate 40 people at time. It is not recommended for people with height phobia, Eva, the ticket lady told me. I had to come back after a failed attempt to reach the top. The consolation was organic and very sweet papayas at the ground, sold by the Khasi ladies.
As you drive or trek out of the village, don’t forget to peep into the natural balancing rock, where a big boulder balances itself on way smaller boulder.
Back to Mawlynnong, I asked Pan, who works for the Dorbar if there is anything that he could change in the village that seems almost perfect. “Responsible tourism, some tourists come to see the cleanest village and leave litters behind”, he said.
Some 90 kilometres from crowded but picturesque Shillong, the capital, Mawlynnong is a perfect weekend gateway.
The drive itself is adventurous should the weather decides to act up.
Halfway, we got caught by the very dense fog which was almost blinding. Twenty kilometres took us more than an hour because of the very stubborn fog.
The return journey was something else. The heaven opened up literally with very heavy rain accompanied by hailstorm, a very aggressive one at that. Within no time, the sun was out. Before we could take out the cameras, came the clouds, dancing to the ground almost.
Indeed, the abode of cloud lived up to its reputation in God’s own garden.

Master plan for Rubber cultivation in state: Negi
Itanagar, May 09: Advocating for conducting mapping of all the foothill areas of the state to develop rubber cultivation to wean away the practice of shifting cultivation, Arunachal Pradesh Chief Secretary Ramesh Negi assured to prepare a master plan for rubber cultivation in the state.
He called for management plan with assistance from Rubber Board of India (RBI) for popularizing rubber plantation in the state.
“We need to develop a management system for small and big rubber growers in the state with all technical support from the RBI”, he added.

Former deputy production commissioner of RBI P C Goswami informed that an area of one lakh hectares have been identified in Arunachal Pradesh for rubber plantation.

“Rubber could be cultivated in foothill areas and other low lying areas,” he added.

MLA Tage Taki demands public apology
ITANAGAR, May 09: Save Arunachal Youth Association (SAYA) has denied the allegation leveled against it by Arunachal Pradesh Congress Seva Dal (APCSD) that the association (SAYA) was working at behest of the expelled minister to tarnish the image of the state government.
Terming the allegation totally untrue and baseless, SAYA president Likha Rajnik clarified

Dismissing the allegation, the MLA stated that he was totally unaware of such an organization, its members and origin.
The Congress has in the past few days come down strongly on expelled finance minister Kalikho Pul and the opposition BJP and alleged them of trying to mislead people regarding financial mismanagement in the state, said the MLA.
“I have also been trying to reach out to Kaha to seek a clarification but he has not been responding to my calls”, the MLA said.
He demanded public apology from Kaha within the next two days for defaming him and his name failing which the MLA has threatened to take legal recourse against the Seva Dal chief.

its 2nd Photo Walk on the theme-
As part of the Walk, the club members organized capacity building programme on how to handle cameras for the school going children, models, government officials and amateur photographers.
Participating in the programme, senior photographer and APC adviser Arif Siddiqui asked the participants to learn more about photography so that they could rely themselves on it for their sustainable livelihood in future. He also asked them to do photography whenever they go to different places on rich wildlife, nature, tourism, art and culture, and depict it both in social and print media so that it can be highlighted to the masses.
APC president Hali Welly exhorted them to focus more on state’s rich and unique biodiversity and its conservation while photographing for sustainable development for the people of the state.
The president also told that the club will be holding such more programme including bird watching and trekking tour to encourage the budding photographers.
Arunachal Pradesh Birding Club member Bengia Mrinal and Miao based Society for Environmental Awareness & Conservation of Wildlife general secretary Phupla Singpho also spoke on importance of nature and its conservation.

Rebia inaugurates weekly market at Huto village
ITANAGAR, May 9: Legislative Assembly Speaker Nabam Rebia inaugurated a weekly market at Huto village, Doimukh at a function in presence of Govt officers, Panchayat leaders, GBs and general public.
Speaking on the occasion, Rebia has exhorted the public especially the market committee to maintain cleanliness in the market area and chalk out plan for proper waste disposal and sanitation. Appreciating Nabam Tade, who established the market, he also assured all possible help from his side for the market development.
He also informed that his long cherished dream of opening an Amusement Park at the bank of river Dikrong is one step closer to becoming a reality as a plot has been identified for the purpose. He asked the administration to explore its possibilities for establishment of the market.
